Fort DeSoto is located in the Tampa area of Florida. We didn’t come here to hike but to visit the fort. We knew there was a lot to do here and could make a full day out of it. We started by going to the fort and checking out all the rooms on display then we headed around back to the beach. We came right after Florida had its crazy cold spell and I was not prepared at all for what we found on the beach. Dead fish, frozen in time, lined the beach. Some even had their mouths open, it was a very disturbing site. I took some pictures for proof but chose not to put them up here in case anyone didn’t want to see them (if you want to, email me and I will send the pictures). So, after we left the beach we headed to find some bike rentals which ended up being just under $20 for both for 2 hours. We biked up to the welcome center to grab some brochures then stopped further up by the beach to look out over the water. It was a gorgeous day and we had a lot of fun.
